Suffolk County School Superintendents Association Sponsors Current Health Issues Workshop

The Suffolk County School Superintendents Association (SCSSA) believes that the health and well being of students is their number one priority.

Current health issues in the media are of concern to everyone. To ensure that Suffolk County school superintendents and school district healthcare staff are knowledgeable about the facts concerning Enterovirus D68, Ebola, the upcoming flu season and other health issues, the SCSSA sponsored a countywide current health issues workshop.

More than 170 school superintendents, administrators and school healthcare providers attended the workshop, at Eastern Suffolk BOCES Sherwood Instructional Support Center, where Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. James L. Tomarken provided factual and informative information regarding current health issues. “It is essential as school superintendents that we are knowledgeable about the facts regarding current health care issues,” stated SCSSA President and Middle Country Central School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roberta A. Gerold.” “We thank Dr. Tomarken for meeting with us and sharing his knowledge.”

Those in attendance also received a packet of information including valuable resources, how to effectively communicate with their school community and how to teach students and staff about the importance of proper hygiene. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Tomarken provided time for those in the audience to ask questions.
